The Labyrinth in Shamanic terms represents the Psychic Journey of the Fool as the Fool evolves into Sage. At the centerof the Labyrinth, which is also the center of the Fools own Psyche, is found the sacred flame left for him by "Prometheus". This flame is infinite self realization, which connects the Fool to wisdom via the transcendent nature of Spirituality. Thus the Sage knows without knowledge, or intuitively apprehends the core mysteries of the universe.

This Journey is also a metaphor for the quest for knowledge in general. The Labyrinths many turns and changes and dead ends and traps are the very psychological places which are the environment of the intellectual journey.
